My First Lace Shawl (Interm)

"Artesian" Shawl by Romi Hill is a perfect pattern for your first lace shawl. Artesian is triangular in shape with one scalloped edge. This pattern uses knit stitches, simple increases, decreases and yarn overs. Pattern is written as well as charted and options for blocking will be discussed. You choose the three-color design or gradient design. We used three colors of "Dune" 100% linen from ShiBui.
I love this shawl..I think you will too!

Spring Lace Wristers - (Interm)
Are you ready to experiment with lace knitting but are not ready for an entire shawl?  "Anna Wristwarmer" by Birgit Freyer is the perfect pattern and will add an elegant touch to any spring outfit. These wristers are fastened with a loop around the middle finger to accentuate the beautiful lace design. Pattern is charted and uses basic knitting techniques.

My First Hat - (Adv Beg)

Are you ready to knit something more complex than a scarf? If so this "Bohemian" hat class is for you! You will learn to knit with bulky yarn in rib, seed and cable stitches. You will also learn to knit in the round with circular needles then transfer to double point needles while doing sequential decreases. We adorned our hat with a raccoon pom-pom. Pattern by IvoryEve is included, purchase materials at Sister-Arts Studio. NEW Racoon Pom Poms have arrived!

My First Pair of Slippers - (Adv Beg)

My grandmother gifted her granddaughters a new pair of handmade slippers every winter. I looked forward to picking out a brand new pair from the display she arranged on the bed in the guest room. "Tootsies Toasters" by Meg Strong is adapted from a 1960's vintage pattern. They remind me of the slippers from Grandma Rose. Learn to knit these slippers with straight then double point needles. Learn provisional cast on, knitting in the round and three needle bind off. I can't wait to knit my daughter a pair!

My First Pair of Socks - (Interm)

This class is designed for knitters that are ready to expand their skills. You have knit scarves and hats now you're ready for socks! In this series you will learn to read a pattern, make a gauge swatch and knit the sock from the cuff down with aran weight yarn. You choose the sock size (toddler to adult large) and the needle type (double point or magic loop). Three classes later you have a beautiful pair of socks!

NEW Wet Felting Scarf Classes!

 


Wet Felting with Tonya Utkina - (Beg)
Tonya Utkina will introduce you to the exciting technique of wet felting using Noro's new fiber "Rainbow Roll".
Rainbow Roll is 100% wool pencil roving available in 12 vibrant color combinations. Tonya will guide you in designing your own scarf with the color combination of your choice and small amounts of merino wool & silk.
NEW for spring and summer a lighter merino wool and cotton gauze scarf!

You will partially felt your scarf using soapy water, bubble wrap and a little elbow grease. No experience is necessary, materials are included.
After class Tonya will complete the felting process for you in her studio (processing time approximately one week).

Classes are small and fill up quickly so register ASAP!

Nuno Felting Class!



Nuno Felting with Tonya Utkina - (Beg)

Tonya will introduce the art of Nuno felting using silk chiffon fabric and Malabrigo "Nube" wool roving. You choose the roving and chiffon colors to create your unique fashion statement. After the wool roving design is complete you will partially felt your scarf using bubble wrap, water, soap and "elbow grease".
Finishing touches will be made by Tonya in her home studio (processing time approximately 1 week).
This beautiful undulating scarf is now created in one class!

When my daughter Ona was young, we spent our "mommy & me time" creating. At the age of seven I taught her to knit and she picked it up in five minutes! Over the next year we knit scarves for all of her teachers. Knitting was and still is a wonderful bonding experience for us...give it a try with your special child! Ages 7 and up.

All the pattern pieces are stitched, ends are woven in, and now I'm supposed to do what, block? Blocking provides hand knits with that extra bit of polish that elevates the finished product. This class examines how, when and why to use different blocking tools and techniques. Students are welcome to bring their own projects to discuss blocking strategies.

Explorations in Crochet Techniques!



Intro to Tunisian Crochet  - (Beg)
Tunisian Crochet also known as Afghan Crochet uses simple crochet stitches and functions like a mixture of crochet and knitting. The afghan crochet tool has a hook on one end, is 10"-13" in length and has a stopper on the opposite end. Like knitting you work with multiple live stitches to create the width of your fabric. This introductory class will focus on learning the Tunisian "basic" and "purl" stitches. Join us to learn this simple textural stitch! Beginning crochet skills required (stitches - chain, single and double crochet). Bring worsted weight scrap yarn, Afghan hook is included.

Intro to Broomstick Lace Crochet - (Beg)
Broomstick Lace Crochet uses simple crochet stitches, a crochet hook and one US 35 or US 50 knitting needle. Crochet stitches are wrapped around the large knitting needle to create beautiful open work patterns. This Introductory class will focus on learning the basics of Broomstick Lace, a simple 2-row repeat. Color striping yarn is perfect for this technique; we used Louisa Harding "Amitola". Join us to start your Broomstick lace scarf! Beginning crochet skills are required (stitches - chain, single and double crochet). Tools are included, bring fingering or sport weight scrap yarn to practice with.

Intro to Hairpin Lace Crochet - (Beg)

Hairpin Lace Crochet is a technique which uses simple crochet stitches, a crochet hook and a special Hairpin Lace Loom. Strips of hairpin lace are crocheted on the loom then these strips are joined together using a crochet hook. This introductory class will focus on the basic technique of creating hairpin lace strips and joinery. Solid color DK weight cotton yarn with stretch is best for this technique; we used Lang, "Gamma". Join us to learn this technique which is perfect for a summer layered garment! Beginning crochet skills are required (stitches - chain, single and double crochet). Tools are included; bring DK weight scrap yarn to practice with.
