Chrysler Shawl Class
Chrysler, designed by Stephen West was inspired by the Chrysler Building in New York. We created our beautiful shop sample using in two contrasting colors of MadTosh Merino Lt. Glitter, an elegant fiber with a subtle sparkle. Jami will teach you how to begin this shawl with Steven's unique "garter tab and I-cord edging". Edulis Shawl (Adv. Beginner)
This crescent shaped shawl designed by Caroline Dick for Cashgora Yarn is truly luscious! Cashgora, a blend of cashmere and angora goat, is hand spun and dyed by The Cashmere People in Tajikistan. Edulis starts a the top with a garter tab, continues with garter stitch body, then lace edging is knitted onto the bottom edge of the shawl... very clever construction indeed! You will learn garter tab, cable cast-on, four different decreases and chart reading. Edulis is a perfect pattern for any knitter that would like to attempt lace knitting for the first time. Socks Your Way! (Interm)
Learn to knit socks the traditional way with double point needles or with the new Flexi-Flips by Addi. If this method is too fussy for you, Valerie will teach you how to knit socks using the magic-loop method with circular needles. If you already know how to knit socks, but want to learn toe-up two-at-a-time that's great, you choose the method. You can even choose your yarn weight fingering, dk or worsted. Join us!

Sweater Club
Design a sweater to fit your style!

Are you ready to knit your first sweater, cardigan or pullover, one-color or colorwork? We have a variety of patterns to choose from and all are knit in one piece from the top-down or bottom-up. Classes are spaced 2-weeks apart to allow sufficient time for knitting progress. Have another pattern in mind for this class.. Bring it along! NEW Convert a Sweater Pattern (Interm)

Have you fallen in love with a sweater pattern to discover that it is knit flat then seamed? There is a solution... in this class you will learn to convert a pattern from flat to knit-in-the-round, either top-down or bottom-up. We will demonstrate how this in done on a typical pattern. Bring your sweater pattern and we will discuss the appropriate approach. Students must have knowledge of basic sweater construction and/or have knit a sweater previously.

NEW Baby/Child Sweater Class (Interm)
The Norwegian Fir Sweater by Oge Knitwear, is a beautiful unisex baby sweater knit from the top down in garter stitch. The raglan increases are achieved with yarn overs and knit stitches in a simple Fir pattern. Sizing is extensive from 3 months through 9 years old. We knit our sample in Sweater by Spud & Chloe, an all season blend of superwash wool and organic cotton. This is a perfect class for your first sweater!

Donna, the owner of Sister-Arts Studio, is certified to teach the Cocoknits Method developed by Julie Weisenberger. This top-down one piece raglan method uses a tailored shoulder technique and a smart color-coded worksheet to track your progress and achieve a perfect fit. New Capelet Class!


Luna Violeta Capelet Class (Interm)
Luna Violeta a colorwork capelet was designed by Donna Palicka for the 2019 Chicago Yarn Crawl. This garment was admired by all and is now on Ravelry! Luna Violeta, knit from the top down, is written out line-by-line and charted. We chose Susurro by Malabrigo, a blend of linen, silk and merino. The color definition, drape and hand are wonderful! Join us for this class and master colorwork, chart reading and capelet construction. Donna has three other capelets to choose from on Ravelry; Capelet Deja Vu, Capelet Trompe L'oeil and Capelet Verdigogo. Choose your favorite for this class!

Master 2-Color Brioche at Last! (Interm)
Have you tried brioche on your own without success? This class is for you! Learn how to knit 2-Color Brioche starting with a cowl in the round. After you master basic 2-color brioche, you will learn how to incorporate increases and decreases as well as strategies for fixing your mistakes. Park will help you feel confident knitting brioche!

When my daughter Ona was young, we spent our "mommy & me time" creating. At the age of seven I taught her to knit and she picked it up in five minutes! Over the next year we knit scarves for all of her teachers. Knitting was and still is a wonderful bonding experience for us. Give it a try with your special child! Ages 7 and up.

My First Hat - Cloud 90 (Adv Beg)
Cloud 90 designed by Donna is an easy hat pattern with a combination of rib, seed and knit stitches. We used Fourteen by Juniper Moon Farm, a beautiful blend of Merino and Cashmere. Learn to read a pattern, knit in the round with circular needles, then decrease with double point needles. This should be your next project after scarves or flat items ..join us!

Colorwork Hat Class (Interm)
Florence a pattern by A. Opie Designs is a stranded color-work pattern which uses four contrasting colors. The hemmed, double-layer brim not only provides extra layer of warmth but a crisp finished look. This class is for intermediate knitters who have already knit a hat. Students will learn how read a pattern, follow a color chart and master color stranding. We carry 30 colors of Weepaca, the most difficult part of this class is making your color selection!

Beginning Crochet Classes!


Novice Crochet - (Beg)
Sister-Arts Studio invites you to join us for weekly beginning crochet classes. Learn the basic crochet stitches; chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, half-double crochet & triple crochet. If time permits we will teach you to crochet in the round. We provide a laminated instruction card, scrap yarn and crochet hook. At the end of the first class we recommend you purchase a skein of yarn to start a scarf.

Coco Crochet Bag - (Adv Beg)
Coco Crochet was designed by Donna during the 2019 Chicago Yarn Crawl. This simple bag, crocheted with Estiva from Berroco, is crocheted in the round in two pieces, seamed together then embellished with a tassel. Leather straps are by Cocoknits, hardware is by Jul Designs. Visit Sister-Art Studio to see our sample and Estiva colors.

Bring your own pattern and we'll help you select appropriate yarn and needles/hooks then guide you through your project. Don't have a pattern; we have plenty of books and patterns in the studio to select from. Just need help with your project or technique? Try our Drop-In for help class on Sundays!

Basics of Blocking (Beg)

All the pattern pieces are stitched, ends are woven in, and now I'm supposed to do what, block? Blocking provides hand knits with that extra bit of polish that elevates the finished product. This class examines how, when and why to use different blocking tools and techniques. Students should bring their own projects to discuss blocking strategies. 

Cost: $50.00 for private session (2 hours)

Seaming Workshop (Beg)

Ok, I have blocked my sweater, what do I do now? Learn a variety of seaming techniques to finish off your sweater; side seams, shoulder seams, invisible seams etc. Students are welcome to bring their own projects to practice seaming techniques.

Wet Felting Scarf Class!


Wet Felting with Tonya Utkina - (Beg)

Tonya Utkina will introduce you to the exciting technique of wet felting using Noro's "Rainbow Roll". Rainbow Roll is 100% wool pencil roving available in 12 vibrant color combinations. Tonya will guide you in designing your own scarf with the color combination of your choice and small amounts of merino wool & silk.
You will partially felt your scarf using soapy water, bubble wrap and a little elbow grease. No experience is necessary, materials are included.
After class Tonya will complete the felting process for you in her studio (processing time approximately one week).

Classes are once per month and fill up quickly so register ASAP!

Silk Resist Painting - (Beg)
"Resist" is a traditional method of silk painting which involves drawing or tracing an image on silk fabric with a wax based solution. When the resist is dry we use special silk paint to fill in the shapes created by the resist, then wash off the resist to reveal the entire image. Select your own image. You will be impressed your beautiful translucent piece of art that looks like stained glass! This class can also be taught as a private party for up to 8 people.

Warping for Weavers!

Rigid Heddle Warping Class - (Beg)

Learn to weave in this fall! Purchase the Schacht 15" Cricket Loom from Sister-Arts Studio then call to register for a one-session warping class. Once the loom is warped you can learn to weave on your own ..really! If you would like additional classes to learn how to perfect your weaving or finish your woven scarf/runner please call to arrange a private class.
